You put your field workforce out on the road to increase agility and give your customers the rapid response they expect. But to make sure every driver and field tech can do their jobs without delays, you need to keep them connected—with the office and each other. Avalon Integration is always on the lookout for mobility solutions that bridge the gap between the mobile workforce and the office. The new Zebra TC77 touch computer handles that task quite nicely.

When Zebra introduced the TC77 as the next generation of the best-selling TC75, our tech staff decided to examine it to understand how it would benefit our customers. We saw that this new rugged handheld has maintained the sleek look of a smartphone (which we like) but provides more memory, speed, and mobility than its predecessor— which is saying a lot because the TC75 set a new standard in mobile workforce computing.

So, what can the TC77 handheld computer do for your Mobile Workforce?

TC77 Captures Delivery Confirmation at an airport

Capture delivery confirmation. Zebra enhanced the data and image capture features to allow for scanning a barcode, signature, text, checkboxes, and even an entire document in one scan, using Zebra SimulScan, which is pre-installed on the TC77.

TC77 can Validate any Condition

Validate proof of condition. The new mobile computer features a 13MP camera, and this adds great value to the device. Eliminate any questions by using the high-res camera to record a detailed image of any product or package with a date stamp.

Review schematics and other detailed documents with the TC77 from Zebra

Review schematics and other detailed documents. The device delivers speeds of up to 866.7 Mbps and features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor. When field service techs need diagrams, manuals, and schematics on-site, the TC77 is powerful enough to rapidly download the information and even run multiple apps at once.

With the TC77 the Mobile Workforce can do Video Conferences with ease from anywhere

Videoconference with colleagues. Your mobile workforce can use the video camera to provide close-up images of equipment problems or other issues to share with co-workers and help service techs in the field with diagnostics or troubleshooting.

TC77 Communicates Instantly with the Mobile Workforce

Communicate instantly. The Zebra TC77 also enables push-to-talk (PTT) for immediate response to questions and inquiries. PTT instantly connects co-workers and makes it easier to get answers quickly.

The TC77 Reduces Downtime for any Mobile Workforce

Reliable performance reduces downtime. Working remotely requires hardware that’s designed to handle tough environments. The TC77 has an 8-foot drop spec, withstands water, snow, ice, dirt, dust, and thousands of tumbles. The touchscreen and imager window is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass for the best prevention of scratches, cracks, and shatters. Plus, the PowerPrecision+ high-capacity battery delivers up to 15 hours on a single charge. But, if needed, the user can swap the battery without powering down the device, minimizing interruption.

The TC77 Simplifies route accounting for your Mobile Workforce

Simplify route accounting. As a purpose-built, rugged industrial computer, the TC77 features the functionality of high-performance computing in a smartphone-styled handheld. Data is easily entered and retrieved from the day’s activities as well as the backend system. At the end of a shift, the worker is no longer juggling piles of paper—manifests, work orders, invoices, sales transactions, and other documents. Instead, an accurate, fully updated report can be done in a fraction of the time.

Consider These Three Scenarios.

We want you to send your workers into the field with equipment that makes their jobs easier and more efficient. Click here to watch a full review of the Zebra TC77. Then contact Avalon Integration to find out how the TC77 supports your goals and delivers both a rapid ROI and lower total cost of ownership.

When tablets first emerged less than a decade ago, they were a consumer device, not quite ready for business use. It didn’t take too long though before being your own device (BYOD) expanded from smartphones to tablets. While good enough for general use in a workplace, moving into more challenging environments proved the consumer-grade tablet just couldn’t cut it. Well, we can now turn the table on tablets because the Zebra XSLATE R12 performs to a higher standard that is critical for enterprise use.

Zebra acquired the XSLATE R12 when it acquired its creator, Xplore, in 2018. The adoption also included the diverse L10 Series of rugged tablets: the XPAD L10, XSLATE L10, and XBOOK L10. Avalon Integration has put all of them to the test, and now we can share our findings on the XSLATE R12.

A Gutsy Choice

Zebra XSLATE R12 - Gutsy Choice

The XSLATE R12 is purpose-built to work harder than any tablet. Its chameleon-like design lets you convert from a conventional tablet to a notebook, with a magnetically-attached companion keyboard for those times when you want to type in your data. Or use a stylus or tap the screen, if that’s your preferred style.

The 12.5-inch display provides ample real estate for a good view of your screen, and the View Anywhere display is easy to view, well, anywhere—courtesy of the anti-reflective and anti-smudge glass and 1000-nit brightness. Corning Gorilla Glass 3 provides a tough surface that’s far more resistant to cracks and breakage than those delicate consumer tablets have. It’s all packaged with a magnesium-allow internal frame, rubberized enclosure, and IP54 sealing. Drop this super-tablet on a hard surface from 4 feet, bump it around in a service vehicle, and even spill water on the device. That’s not going to stop it. Yes, we tried.

So, we know the XSLATE R12 is rugged, but are there brains with this brawn?

Zebra XSLATE R12 is built for emergency services

Absolutely.

This Zebra rugged tablet is driven by a seventh-generation Intel Core processor, so your mobile workforce isn’t sitting around waiting for downloads. The integrated SSD provides an extra layer of security that’s critical when device-sharing is happening. Just remove the drive and pass along the R12 to the next user. The fingerprint reader increases the device’s security even more.

Who Needs a Tablet This Tough?

Zebra XSLATE R12 is the tough tablet for any environment

The XSLATE R12 goes from office to vehicle to fieldwork. One device with unlimited possibilities. We tested the tablet in a service van, using the mobile dock, and it was simple to snap in and then remove. It was also easy to enter information in the vehicle with a finger or stylus. The screen was easy to view, even at that late point in the day when the sun beats brightly through the windshield.

We hooked up a barcode scanner and high-frequency RFID reader by adding the SlateMate module. The scanner was easy to use and didn’t add bulk or interfere with the compact profile of the device.

The Zebra XSLATE R12 rugged tablet presents a great solution for tough tasks in a variety of industries:

  • Law Enforcement and First Response: Ticketing and eCitations, evidence documentation, investigations, emergency response planning, dispatch.
  • Manufacturing and Warehousing: Inventory management, safety audits, compliance reporting, project management, asset monitoring and control, logistics, dispatch and routing, dock and yard management, quality assurance, incident reporting.
  • Field Service: Repair and service documentation, parts inventory control, field sales, payment processing, delivery confirmation, work orders, claims to process, estimating, invoicing, route reporting.
  • Healthcare: Electronic patient care reporting, remote patient monitoring, care team consultations, inventory management, help desk.

Avalon Integration and Zebra’s XSLATE R12 Is Here to Suit Your Every Need

Consumer tablets just aren’t designed to handle demanding conditions. The cost to repair, maintain, and replace them drives up the total cost of ownership. Choose a rugged tablet for a real return on investment. Avalon Integration is ready to show you the value of the Zebra XSLATE R12. Contact us to arrange a demo and learn more.

How much time and money are wasted searching for products, parts, tools, shipping containers, and even people? Add it up and then estimate how that time could instead contribute to productivity and profitability. No matter what you’re missing, Avalon Integration has found a solution. Find your assets in the cloud.

Let the Cloud Manage the Workflow
TC25 Cloud Manage Workflow with the help of MobiWorks

We’ve spent years working with warehouse operations, manufacturers, and distribution centers that didn’t realize how much these lost assets were costing them. In some cases, they paid to replace what they couldn’t find. More often, they paid for the labor to hunt them down.

One person realizes something is missing. He or she then asks around, disrupting other people’s workflow. Next thing you know, several workers have joined the hunt. The more valuable the asset, the larger the search group.

But remember, it’s not just time spent on the search. While your crew is on safari, the production line could be waiting, a customer’s shipment or service is delayed, a route is less efficient because it doesn’t have a full load, and so on.

When we discovered MobiWork software, our team realized we had the tools to cut out the waste here. We combined MobiWork for Asset Management with the enterprise-class rugged technology from Zebra. The result is the MWS Asset Management Solution Platform, a cloud-based approach to achieving real-time visibility of your enterprise assets.

This platform isn’t just for finding the misplaced assets. The solution enables total control over the use of them, no matter where you are. Connect to your dashboard from the cloud and here’s what you can do:

  • Proactively identify any tools or equipment that are approaching a maintenance deadline and schedule the service, avoiding downtime from responding too late.
  • Optimize routes to schedule, dispatch, and re-route with more efficiency, saving on fuel and labor costs.
  • Track your rental assets to make sure they’re maximizing usage and not sitting somewhere, draining profits.
  • Generate invoices and process payments in the field, reducing the payment cycle time.
  • Monitor labor to rein in job costs and increase workforce productivity
  • Easily generate work orders that comply with the approved format and terms.
  • Instantly update mobile inventory on vehicles as service techs use and sell parts on their routes.
  • Track shipments from origin to destination.
  • Produce up-to-date reports whenever and wherever you need them.

Pair the Right Software and Mobile Computer on a Cloud-based Platform

TC25 Courier Scanning a barcode with the help of Mobiworks

Pair the software with the right mobile computer for the job. A consumer-grade handheld won’t work in these environments. The average life of one of those tablets or smartphones is about six months. Compare that to three or more years with a purpose-built mobile computer, and you can probably see that the total cost of ownership is lower with the rugged version—as well as more secure.

The Zebra TC25 touch computer is the right choice for Avalon Integrations MWS Asset Management Solution Platform. Although it resembles a consumer smartphone, this handheld computer is much tougher. Drop it onto a concrete floor from six feet and you don’t have to worry about a cracked screen, or worse. You can even dowse it with water, leave it bumping around in a service vehicle, and the TC25 keeps working.

The TC25 also comes pre-loaded with Mobility Extensions (Mx), a fortified Android with government-grade AES-256 data encryption. As a purpose-built mobile computer, it is designed for MDM. Your IT team can remotely locate, configure, install upgrades, and lock down the device—a definite plus for improving productivity. The TC25 features two cameras (one for video calling and a high-res for documentation) and a powerful scanning engine, so it delivers the power of a 1D/2D barcode scanner/reader.

Whether you run one facility or multiples, you have high-value assets, and you probably don’t know where they all are. From misplaced inventory to equipment that has just disappeared, finding or replacing it all is costing you in time and money. Are you still hunting for lost assets because you haven’t found a better way? It’s time for a better tracking solution. Avalon Integration has developed a mobile asset management platform to end the wasteful game of hide-and-seek.

MWS Asset Management with MobiWork
MobiWork Collaboration With Avalon Integration for MWS Asset Management

After guiding so many businesses away from the time-intensive and error-ridden manual approach to asset tracking, we sought out partners with the expertise to help us come up with a better approach—one that would deliver valuable results along with rapid ROI.

The MWS Asset Management Solution Platform combines MobiWork’s software and Zebra’s rugged mobile devices with Avalon Integration’s experience in serving the technology needs of warehouses, manufacturers, and distribution centers for more than 20 years.

MobiWork developed an asset management software program that gives you real-time visibility of your assets—products, parts, and people! This component of the MWS Asset Management Solution Platform streamlines a broad range of tasks:

  • Locate assets
  • Get asset information, including a maintenance schedule
  • Track asset usage
  • Schedule repairs
  • Submit work orders
  • Create invoices and process payment
  • Dispatch and reroute service techs
  • Access maps with turn-by-turn navigation to optimize routes
  • Update mobile inventory with parts usage and sales
  • Track shipments from origin to destination
  • Generate reports

MWS Asset Management Made Easy with the Zebra TC25

We knew that anything less than purpose-built mobile computers would limit the success of the solution. So, we chose the Zebra TC25 touch computer, a rugged handheld computer, for the hardware that makes the data easily accessible. The TC25 looks and feels like a smartphone—familiarity that appeals to workers—but with enterprise-class functionality, including Android that’s fortified for stronger security, greater data capture, more robust connectivity, and better device and app management. Plus, the unmatched ruggedness of Zebra’s design, engineering, and quality means a lower total cost of ownership because you avoid the repair and replacement costs that come with choosing a mobile computer that can’t handle the tough stuff.

You might be hesitating about investing in a new asset management solution. Think about what your delay is costing you. How much are you paying for downtime, errors, and delays? What would more efficient routing do for your delivery schedules—to say nothing of customer satisfaction? Would it be useful to know how much your high-value assets are utilized from day to day? Wouldn’t that help to identify revenue and productivity opportunities?

Your mobile workforce needs to be well equipped to handle the demands of working remotely. They should have rugged devices that can handle the rigors of road work, like bouncing around inside a dusty service vehicle and handling snow, ice, rain, and extreme temperatures. But rugged isn’t the only feature for efficiency. Zebra recently launched a new generation of the TC56 and Avalon Integration took a look. The new Zebra TC52 touch computer takes maximum mobility outside the four walls and far into the field.

Familiar Smartphone Appearance for Maximum Mobility
The Zebra TC52 has a Familiar Appearance for Maximum Mobility

When we first unboxed the TC52, it was obvious that the sleek smartphone styling had been continued into the new version. The comfort, familiarity, and ease of use are important when sending workers into the field with new technology for maximum mobility. Unlike a smartphone though, your workers can enter data on the touchscreen with a gloved finger, in addition to a stylus or finger.

More Secure Android for the Enterprise and Maximum Mobility

The TC52 comes pre-loaded with Zebra’s fortified Android—basically, a powered-up version of the operating system with enterprise-class features. You don’t have the worries of the open platform because Zebra’s Mobility Extensions (Mx) use AES-256 encryption, the high level demanded government use.

Ready for Tough Stuff
The TC52 is Ready For The Tuff Stuff

Zebra designed and built this rugged handheld like its many others, with the ability to hit a hard floor or surface without breaking. All those tumbles off the dashboard or into the snow won’t stop the TC52 from doing its job. The Corning Gorilla Glass protects the display and image window from shattering and scratches.

Robust Connectivity

When your work takes you to remote places, you need technology that can grab a cellular network connection without hesitation. This handheld computer allows for increased data capacity and speeds up to 2 Mbps, as well as supporting the Public Safety LTE network for first responders. The TC52’s technology also supports Visible Light Communication (VLC), Bluetooth 5.0 BLE, and Wi-Fi for maximum mobility. The WorryFree WiFi feature finds the strongest Wi-Fi connection and delivers outstanding roaming performance.

Better Cameras
The TC52 has Better Camera for any environment

For recording data—whether it’s a signature or a video—the TC52’s two cameras are designed to handle every task. The front-facing camera is 5 MP, a great tool for video conferencing. The rear-facing 13 MP camera provides the high-resolution imaging you need for documenting damaged materials and proof of delivery. A field service person can get support from the field by zooming in on a repair challenge and sharing it with the office tech staff.

14-Hour Battery Life
The Zebra TC52 has a 14-Hour Battery Life for Maximum Mobility

Zebra installs the PowerPrecision+ battery in the TC52 mobile computer. Even on a long shift, the device keeps working. If it does run out, you don’t have to power down the handheld, because the Warm Swap feature lets you make the exchange while it’s still running—eliminating the interruption in workflow.

When you’re sending out your mobile workforce with expectations to do their best work with the utmost accuracy and efficiency, give them the tools to do it. Rugged handhelds that are purpose-built, like the Zebra TC52, represent a smart investment with a solid return.

Smartphones have come a long way in the past decade. They’ve gotten smaller and then bigger, with improvements in imaging, function, and voice commands. These are all great consumer-centered features. But does that make a smartphone the right choice for a demanding workplace, like a plant, distribution center, or T&L operation? At Avalon Integration, we’ve seen enough of these devices fail when put to an enterprise test. It’s time to replace the consumer smartphone with the smarter, faster, and more rugged Zebra TC52 touch computer.

If you’re a Millennial, technology comes pretty easy to maneuver. However, it can still take time to adjust to a new device, particularly when that equipment hasn’t been designed to enhance the user experience. The Avalon Integration team recently discovered that the Zebra MC3300 Handheld Mobile Computer elevates user-friendly to a new standard that you’ll appreciate, no matter how tech-savvy you are.

So, why do you need the Zebra MC3300 Handheld Mobile Computer?

Front View of the MC3300 Handheld Mobile Computer

The MC3300 is about as easy as it gets—and just as versatile. Zebra designed the rugged handheld computer so you can customize it to the way you’re going to use it. Choose from four form factors, three scan engines, three keypads, and three tiers of functionality. With all of these choices, you can transform this mobile computer into a purpose-built device that nails every task you need, with accuracy and ease.

Look at the data input options. The MC3300 has both a touchscreen and keyboard, with your choice of alphanumeric, numeric, and functional numeric keypads. The 4-inch screen is plenty large enough to type easily, so your workers aren’t wasting time with a temperamental touchscreen that commands precision.

Zebra powers the MC3300 with its fortified Android for enterprise-class function. Right out of the box, the computer runs the latest version of Android, so users have the familiarity that comes with this operating system—i.e., no training required. You can also upgrade easily to future Android versions. And if the pain of OS migration that resulted from Microsoft’s abandonment is still fresh on your mind, you should know that Zebra guarantees security updates for 10 years from the release date.

So, why do you need the Zebra MC3300 Handheld Mobile Computer?

MC3300 Handheld Mobile Computer has great Performance in any warehouse

Speaking of power, the MC3300 Handheld Mobile Computer is engineered for performance. Run two apps side by side or flip back and forth. Just press a button to get where you need, and the lightning-fast processor will take you there in an instant. Zebra installed a Qualcomm 8056 1.8GHz Hexa-core processor with power optimization. That means you’re running with up to 16 times the RAM and 32 to 125 times the Flash memory.

For those TE apps you’re already using, the MC3300 will run them, right out of the box. There’s no backend modification necessary. You also have the popular Ivanti Velocity TE pre-loaded and pre-licensed on the device. But if you need to update your TEs or convert green screen apps, Zebra’s AllTouch TE is also pre-loaded, which helps you gain the more intuitive, graphics screens that today’s users prefer.

We recently took the time to examine Zebra MC3300 in our offices at Avalon Integration. This unique mobile computer doubles as a super scanner (or maybe it’s the other way around). The scanning power and intelligence alone for this rugged handheld computer will deliver rapid ROI. So many scanning features are built into it that warehouses, manufacturers, and retail operations are going to need to test it out.

The first thing you should know about the Zebra MC3300 is that you can choose from four form factors, so the “purpose-built” aspect really fits your needs. There’s the pistol grip, which is ergonomically ideal for heavy-duty scanning without wrist strain. The turret style with the rotating head makes it easier to scan in hard-to-reach places. Zebra also offers the Zebra MC3300 in a straight shooter style with either 0º or 45 º scan.

So, why do you need the Zebra MC3300?

MC3300 - SimulScan

As a scanner, the Zebra MC3300 is a workhorse. Zebra integrated its advanced scanning features, like SimulScan, which lets you scan multiple barcodes and even an entire document with one trigger pull. You can specify which types of data you want to capture—like barcodes, images, signatures, checkboxes, text fields, and phone numbers.

Since the job of a barcode scanner is to scan barcodes, we also need to appreciate that not all of these codes are perfectly positioned and in flawless condition. Zebra’s scanning excellence lets you grab barcodes that are hard to read, like those that are scratched, dirty, damaged, poorly printed, and even covered in frost or under shrinkwrap.

Here to Save You Time!

MC3300 - Close Range

That’s a big time-saver for scan-intensive jobs. In addition, the extended read range SE4850 engine goes from 3 inches to 70 feet, so just about no barcode is out of reach. Even at close range, the Zebra MC3300’s wide field of view reads large barcodes without having to maneuver the scanner.

While not necessarily a function of the scanning ability, the ruggedness of this Zebra mobile computer is worthy of note. The drop spec goes up to 5 feet on a concrete floor and withstands thousands of tumbles. You’ll appreciate that when you don’t have to repair or replace the sturdy device.

How long do you hold onto your hardware before it’s outlived its value? Yes, it’s hard to keep up with the advances that seem to come in a steady stream from the manufacturers, but you should at least be aware of your options. Avalon Integration doesn’t believe you always need to switch just because a new version has been released. Instead, you should be aware of how your technology is supporting your goals for operational efficiency because it directly impacts your bottom line. So, are your legacy devices holding you back? Let’s take a look at why upgrading with the new Zebra TC77 can help you leap forward.

Look at the changes that are built into the new technology and determine the value of those benefits as compared to the investment in your current devices. If you’re having difficulty maintaining a strong connection, then you’re paying for your workers to roam around and find a signal. If the scanner requires precise aim and is a bit picky about the types of barcodes it will read, the time it takes for someone to do each scan should be multiplied across the number of scans across a shift, times the number of workers, shifts, and workdays. That wasted time really adds up!

So, why do you need the Zebra TC77?

Zebra TC77 has a faster processor for your work environment

Consider the processing speed of your legacy devices. As your enterprise apps require more power, your older devices are still working with the same processor. They can’t keep up, which means slow uploads and downloads, and you can’t run more than one app at a time. Is that efficient enough for you?

Next, think about the features that you haven’t yet considered, but might actually improve productivity. For example, would your workforce benefit from a better camera? Do they need to capture and transmit detailed images? Your field service technicians might get better support if they could show the people in the office what they’re looking at. Or, your receiving team could grab great photos that show the condition of something that arrived damaged.

Sometimes, you don’t know you need a feature until someone shows you how great it really is.

The Zebra TC77 rugged handheld computer didn’t disappoint. All of the features we’ve mentioned here are packed into this compact mobile computer that still looks like a smartphone. It’s fast, smart, and purpose-built to give your workforce the tools to get their jobs done faster and with more accuracy.

Zebras TC77 is the best upgrade for your legacy devices

Do you need the Zebra TC77 ultra-rugged mobile computer? Maybe. If your current handhelds are more than three years old, the failure rate increases. According to VDC Research, every 1% increase in device failure equals a 5% increase in the total cost of ownership. If you’re holding onto those legacy devices thinking you’re saving money, you might be underestimating the actual TCO.

We don’t know if the Zebra TC77 is the right fit for you right now, but isn’t it worth finding out for sure? Take a couple of minutes to watch this short video for a preview.

When you’re looking for a rugged handheld computer—something that can handle the tough stuff in a harsh environment—you look past the consumer devices, because they can’t handle it. Zebra is where you should look. As a leader in this segment, Zebra knows how to build technology that combines sleekness, intelligence, and lasting reliability. And now that the Zebra’s new TC77 is here, Avalon Integration wants to give you a closer look at what’s in store.

Right out of the box, the TC77 touch computer looks a lot like its predecessor, the TC70—and that’s a good thing. The consumer styling of the device is something we really liked. It provides a familiarity that users appreciate. The TC77 weighs the same 13.3 ounces and maintains the 4.7-inch display of the earlier generation handheld computer.

So, Why Do You Need the Latest Touch Computer?

TC77 Efficiency

If you want more productivity from your workforce, you’ll get far better results with a Zebra TC77 than the legacy devices that you’re currently using. Increase their efficiency and optimize their time with this purpose-built mobile computer:

  • As a computer, the TC77’s Qualcomm Snapdragon, 660 octo-core, a 220GHz processor will feel like a high-performance engine compared to the older processors. Plus, the 4 GB RAM and 32 GB Flash memory deliver far more space for your graphics-intensive apps to function without holding you back.
  • As a barcode scanner, the SE4750 imager lets you easily grab 1D, 2D, and Digimarc barcodes with one try, from as far away as three feet. The omnidirectional scanning means you don’t have to spend precious time precisely aligning the scanner with the barcode.
  • The two cameras expand the functionality, with a 5-megapixel, front-facing camera for video calls and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus that captures fine details—ideal for capturing images of damaged goods and mechanical issues.
  • The ultra-rugged description of the Zebra TC77 is no understatement. The Corning Gorilla Glass touchscreen provides maximum scratch and shatters resistance. It works from sub-zero temps to searing heat, so you can count on this tough handheld to work anywhere you need it. The Zebra mobile computer also handles drops to concrete from as high as 8 feet. Although you might be curious, don’t test your legacy device this way!
  • Mobility is a critical factor. If you can’t connect, none of the great features are useful. You need to depend on robust connectivity wherever you go. So, the TC77 is designed to support two carriers, seamlessly switching from one to the other as needed. And the aggregate support delivers fast connections and downloads.
  • You also need to consider the battery life on a mobile device, because if it can’t last a full shift, you’re wasting time. The TC77 runs on a Power Precision+ long-life battery, designed to last 15 hours or more on a single charge. If you need to replace the battery, the hot-swap feature lets you change it without powering down the computer, another time-saver.
